TE 886 Technology Tools for Teachers - Podcasting Podcast
Reflective Statement:
This website, with a podcast series in it, was built for the class TE 886 Technology Tools for Teachers. Upon taking an initial quiz and talking with the Instructor, I was encouraged to forgo the usual aspects of the class and instead concentrate on a new technological tool that would help teachers. I had been reading a lot about Podcasts and how they were starting to be used in academia so I decided to use that as my research project.
Process Statement:
Everything in this work was done completely "by hand" so as to truly learn all of the different components of creating a video podcast and creating the RSS feed needed to make it fully functional. Research was conducted to see how other universities were using podcasts as well as identifying ways that podcasts could be made with a limited budget and resources.
Assessment Statement:
I believe the project was very successful in that I was able to learn a lot about all the various aspects that go into creating a video podcast. By researching this topic I was able to become somewhat of a subject matter expert and even gave several presentations to faculty and staff at Kansas State University on this topic: KSU Presentation: Podcasting, the Future is Now! (RealMedia video will launch), Podcasting and RSS from within K-State Online! (RealMedia video will launch). The strong points of this portfolio item presentation are: referencing, research, IT capabilities, creative expression and presentation skills.

Noticed a typo in this sentence
"Steaming version of the podcasting episodes"
unless u really meant steaming rather than streaming!! :)
Hi Shalin,
The podcasts are so good and hot that they are "steaming." Heehee, thanks for catching that one. It has been corrected.
I've actually sent people to this podcast who have asked me about podcasting.
I think you do an excellent job of explaining the technology to someone that might not know much about any of the technologies that are used. You also do a good job of being aware of some of the misinformation that is out there regarding how podcasts work. Especially the stuff about needing an ipod, because information like that does get circulated and it is good to dispell that right away.
I also appreciate that you added all of the links as titles that you display on the screen. Most people wouldn't take the time to add the URL for referencing Wikipedia, but since the audience of this podcast inherently is supposed to help people who are unfamiliar with technology, it is a great idea to include it.
Brent,
This is a great resource for those interested in the basics of Podcasting. I plan on using it to help others at our college understand what "podcasting" is.
Yes I know I ended the last sentence with a preposition. That is something I usually not put up with.
The steaming part was mentioned by moi (swasati)!!
